A cross-disciplinary symposium about many-sided capabilities and tasks of CRISPR/Cas technology has taken place in the University of Vienna. This approach is intended for targeted gene editing of simple and complex organisms. Students of the University of Vienna and scientists from Austria and the USA took part in the discussion. They all work to make a new medical revolution in the world.
During symposium scientists and students have discussed issues of safe changes in genetical information, their influence on the organism and assessed risk of the new technology.
According to a professor of the University of Vienna the main goal of this cross-disciplinary discussion is to involve not only Austria to the development of such approach, but also all countries worldwide in order to speed up the process of technology development.
It should be mentioned that having an opportunity to change genetical information intentionally, the technology may be applied not only in agricultural industry and ecology in future, but also for the purposes of treating hereditary diseases of people by gene reprogramming. CRISPR/Cas technology has a chance to make a huge breakthrough in the sphere of genetic engineering.
