Slovenia is a part of the European Union and Erasmus program, which makes it very attractive for getting higher education for Indians. In addition, this small and very beautiful country is distinguished by great climate, picturesque nature, high level of safety and mentality, which is close to the Indian citizens.
Despite the fact that the amount of educational institutions in Slovenia is not big (only 3 state universities and a private one, the rest are institutes and colleges), the number of Indian students is quite impressive. For example, these days one fifth of the whole population in the capital of the country is students of higher institutions. Undoubtedly, this is an advantage for Indian young people, because being surrounded by similar individuals makes it easier to get acclimatized to a new place. Additionally, the whole infrastructure in the city works following the needs of Indian students.
Education in Slovenia for Indians
To begin with, it should be mentioned that state and private universities offer similarly high level of teaching and materials for studying, as well as requirements to Indian students. There is also a big list of education programs that fully matches the needs of the labor market and leading education methods.
A special focus should be put on a strongly marked orientation in studying for gaining practical skills. For this purpose practitioners of different specializations are invited as teachers, including specialists in the sphere of science and art. Considerable amount of budget funds are allocated for development and maintenance of laboratories, research departments and libraries. This is particularly important for young Indian scientists who want to take part in expensive experiments and scientific research results.
Education in Slovenia enables not only to get a diploma recognized in Europe, but also do an internship at universities of other countries or participate in a student exchange program. After graduation there is an opportunity to find a job for Indians by means of career centers affiliated with universities.
Even accommodation conditions in dormitories or student residences in Slovenia are at high level, although the rent price is not that high.
How to get admitted for an Indian to a university in Slovenia
Most universities don’t require Indians to pass entrance tests or know Slovenian perfectly during the first year of studying. Indian student only need a document about recognition of a certificate of secondary education obtained in the native country and to pass a language test when transferring to the second year, which is much easier after a yearlong adaptation.
If studying in Slovenia is too expensive for you, there is an opportunity to use scholarship programs for Indians in case you observe some conditions. Those Indian students who have already become students of Slovenian universities are supposed to get different privileges, discounts and subsidies on meals, transportation and attendance of various courses or events.
